Our Representation in Child Custody and Visitation Matters
Issues involving custody and visitation can be extremely emotional. While most parents genuinely want the best possible outcome for their children, parents often have very different ideas as to what would be best for the children. When an agreement cannot be negotiated between the parents resolving all custody and visitation issues, and the issue must be brought before the court for resolution, the parties will be required to participate in mediation. We will assist you in deciding whether or not to complete mediation with a mediator made available through the court in each county or with a private mediator, and will insure that you understand and are prepared for the mediation process. If possible, the mediator will assist the parties in resolving disputes and reaching agreements. If disputes are not resolved, the mediator will provide recommendations to the court regarding his or her opinion as to what would be in the best interest of the children.
There are many factors that will be considered and can effect the custody and visitation orders which will be made in each case, some of which are the ages of the children the distance between that parents' homes and the children's desires as to their living arrangements where age appropriate.
Modification of Child Custody and Visitation Orders
Often custody and visitation orders need to be revised due to a change in circumstances such as a parent's move away from the area, issues arising which may effect a parent's ability to care for the children, or changes in the needs of the children as they get older.
